What is PowerLime?

POWERLIME is a flue gas desulfurization (FGD) co-product material derived from the scrubbing of flue gas emissions in coal-burning power plants. It is a one-step soil amendment used to manage pH and supply sulfur in a single trip across the field.

POWERLIME consists of a reactive form of calcium and sulfate sulfur. The form of calcium helps to adjust soils to optimum pH levels, making nutrients more available. The sulfate sulfur is a form that is readily available to the crop, unlike other types of sulfur that require time to convert into a usable form. 

Sulfur Optimizes Growth

Sulfur is a valuable secondary nutrient that benefits the soil and crop. Adequate sulfur helps plants utilize nitrogen to form enzymatic proteins that are important for a variety of growth functions.

Sulfur deficiency, which sometimes is shown by yellow streaking on the newer leaves, is becoming more common in part because of 1990 Clean Air regulations requiring utilities and other plants to remove sulfur dioxide from emissions. What was once supplied from the atmosphere must now be added as a crop input. POWERLIME provides sulfate sulfur, which is immediately available to the crop.

Application Rates

Conduct soil tests and consult a certified agronomist to determine proper application rates, paying close attention to desired calcium levels. Rates often range from 500 lbs/A to 2 tons/A depending on soil test results. 

 

POWERLIME Composition

POWERLIME is sold in bulk form. Typical sample profiles are as follows:

  • Approximately 34% calcium and 3% sulfate sulfur

  • Effective Calcium Carbonate (No Equivalent) – 70%
